The Fed's April meeting

29/4/2026 (Wed)

Previous: 3.75% Forecast: 3.75%

With ongoing energy supply crunch and an uncertain labour market, futures market pricing is implying virtually no chance of a rate cut later this week, according to the CME Group's FedWatch gauge.

Jerome Powell will likely hold his last official press conference as chair of the Fed. Kevin Warsh, who is likely to be take over, has suggested he may stop holding the regular press conferences entirely.

Warsh favours using "trimmed averages" of inflation, he told Senate lawmakers during his confirmation hearing. The reading currently undershoots the latest core PCE, setting the bar lower for action.
