The US labour market is starting to show signs of stabilization, but the underlying picture could be more nuanced. Job gains rose by 178,000 in March, marking the strongest gain since the end of 2024.
The new positions remained concentrated in structural health care hiring. On top of that, wage grew at the slowest pace in nearly five years, which poses challenges for consumers.
Economists said recent readings from the BLS had been unusually volatile, making it difficult to judge whether the March figure marked a turning point for cooling employment.
