After nine months of holding its key interest rate steady, the Fed is widely expected to announce a rate cut at the September meeting. The focus will be the pace of loosening with an option of 50 bps.


While Trump fails to failed to sway policymakers, a string of disappointing job market reports may have been enough to finally do the trick. But there lies a dilemma of an upswing in price growth due to tariffs.


The Fed has been closely watching the nation's inflation rate, which remains stubbornly above the central bank's 2% annual target and which has inched higher in recent months.
