U.S. Labor Dept reported April inflation below expectations; consumer prices lowest since Feb 2021 due to Trump tariffs.

Inflation was slightly lower than expected in April as Trump's tariffs just began hitting the slowing US economy, according to a Labor Department report Tuesday, though shelter prices were still sticky.
The reading hit its lowest since February 2021. While it was tame, US tariffs are a wild card in the picture, depending on where negotiations go between the Trump administration and major trade partners.
Economists suspect that even with the easing of the 145% reciprocal tariffs against China, inflation numbers could perk up again in the summer months.
