Inflation accelerated in May as rising energy costs contributed to pain for consumers, though underlying pressures were less intense. CPI climbed above 4% for the first time in three years.


Core reading also hit its highest level since October 2025. The report suggested the oil price shock was not yet spilling over to the broader economy, and remained mostly confined to the transportation sector.


US and Iranian forces traded intense missile and drone strikes on Sunday. The escalation followed Tehran's attacks on American installations across multiple Gulf nations and its official closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
