Core PCE inflation in the US climbed 3.1% year-on-year in January, the largest gain since March 2024. The repot posed a dilemma for the Fed as labour market has shown hard-to-ignore cracks.
Consumer spending rose slightly larger-than-expected, but other data hinted at downside risks to the economic outlook after GDP slowed at a sharper pace than initially thought in Q4.
Services sector growth slowed in March, while prices paid by businesses for inputs increased by the most in more than 13 years, an early indication that the prolonged war with Iran is boosting inflation pressures.
