From Santiago to Taipei: EBC Financial Group Wraps Its 2026 Football Fever Watch Party Series

2026-07-29
Summary:

Across the summer, EBC Financial Group united clients, partners, and supporters across six markets and three continents through live football events.

With the summer's football fever now abated, EBC Financial Group (EBC) is looking back on its EBC Watch Party series, a run of live match-viewing events that brought football fans together across six of the Group's key markets this summer.

The series ran through June and July across South Africa, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Taiwan, each night built around a live screening of a fixture tied to that nation. It opened with Chile's warm-up against Portugal in early June and carried through to match nights in Argentina and Colombia later in the month, every event hosted in a setting made for the occasion and open to clients, partners, and supporters.

Every night featured live screenings on large-format displays, food and drinks on the night, and the kind of room that only fills up when football fans who also happen to know their way around a balance sheet get together. Across the series, EBC welcomed almost 150 attendees distributed across Latin America and South Africa, making it one of the most successful activations of the season.

The Mexico vs South Africa match on 11 June took centre stage, hosted at Sandton Rockets, Bryanston from 21:00. With Mexico opening its campaign in one of the summer's most talked-about fixtures, the night ran well beyond the ninety minutes. With 38 attendees in Ciudad de México and 36 in Johannesburg, the event highlighted football as a catalyst for community building. It provided a platform for the EBC network to connect across continents, underscoring our ability to remain united by shared passion despite physical distance.

It was a fun family friendly affair in Colombia and Mexico!

Beyond Latin America and Africa, the series also reached Asia, with EBC hosting watch parties in Taiwan. Both are markets where EBC has been building its presence, and the screenings brought clients and partners together around the football, much as the earlier stops did. The Taiwan event drew 35 guests, many of them well-known trading KOLs and long-standing EBC clients.

"Football and financial markets have more in common than people think. Both run on skill, training, confidence, momentum, and the belief that the next move matters. This summer we watched the world's best sides go all the way, and we had our people there for it. That was the whole point," said Andria Phiniefs, Marketing Director, EBC Financial Group.

Alongside the live events, EBC Portuguese ran two social media campaigns to carry the atmosphere onto its channels.

The EBC Reflex Challenge invited followers to test their timing through a short interactive video, where a puzzle piece moved across a grid until the full image assembled for a moment. Followers who screenshotted the completed image and posted it in the comments went into a lucky draw for EBC-branded merchandise. The challenge drew more than 30,000 views and over 800 engagements and brought in 152 new Instagram followers.

What If the Financial Market Took the Field? pulled EBC's market identity into the football conversation, prompting followers to match financial assets to teams and players. Which nation does gold represent? Which star plays like the US dollar? Built for the EBC Portuguese community, it drew creativity, humour, and debate, along with more than 3,000 views and over 50 engagements.

Both campaigns carried the same message. Football and financial markets reward awareness, timing, confidence, and making the right move at the right moment. One tested reaction, the other imagination.

The series reflected where EBC operates and who it serves. South Africa, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Taiwan are not just names on a fixture list. They are markets where EBC has built real relationships and a growing presence. Hosting these events was a practical decision more than a corporate one. Football matters to the people EBC works with, so it matters to EBC.
